The Arctic HFO ban entered into force in July 2024, with
exemptions and waivers delaying full implementation until 2029.
Its geographic scope is limited to IMO Polar Code Arctic waters.
It removes the heaviest residual fuels, but does not require a switch
to DMA/DMZ and therefore leaves scope for continued use of other
higher-BC fuel options.
